POST COVID-19 TRENDS IN ENERGY: WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? |
Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Asian Institute of Technology, ThailandAbstract: Keeping the focus of ICPEI 2020, which is on power, energy and innovation, the presentation aims to discuss the developments in the energy arena leading to the 2030s. This coming decade could well be an important watershed in the energy use for the coming decades – in supply side; transmission, distribution, storage side; and demand side – as major transitions will have to be made. Taking all this into consideration, this presentation will, therefore, consider the developments and progress in terms of energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency in the immediate past, trends in energy consumption impacting economic development and environment, SDG 7 goals and targets, and the various innovations happening in energy technology, its applications and services, currently spearheaded by the role of artificial intelligence and internet of energy that impacts all sectors of the society. The impact of covid-19 on human behavior has been far reaching, and has also influenced the use of energy. Finally, the role and activities of educational institutions and societies, to address the growing and different needs of the various generations will also be presented. |
Biography
Prof. Sivanappan Kumar is Professor at the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Change, School of Environment, Resources and Development, at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. He lectures in Sustainable Energy Transition and Climate Change and Sustainable Development Programs.
His research interests consists of Renewable Energy Resource and Technologies, Climate Change and Green House , as Mitigation, Solar Energy, Energy and Sustainable Development.
His areas of expertise are Solar Energy, Energy and Climate Change, Energy and Sustainable Development.
